Equi-Coaching

Equi-coaching is a process that allows clients of all ages and gender to look at their own situation from different perspectives in order to help them arrive at a path of action to achieve their goals. Coaching enables you to develop new areas of practical competence, build true confidence and expand your capacity for effective action and results.

Difference between Equi-Coaching and Psychotherapychrysalis equine therapy

Depending on which therapeutic model one follows, psychotherapy typically focuses on resolving events from the past & an individual & family history is often explored in depth. Psychology is interested in understanding pathologies such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety, alcoholism, etc. & the treatment can consist of a diagnostic & a therapeutic intervention.

The focus of the equi-coaching conversation is on the present & future. The objective is to assist the individual in the development of new capabilities to enable him/her to exercise their leadership in both his/her personal & professional life. Both approaches have their place in offering insight into behaviours, in order to assist clients in connecting with their feelings, own their behaviours & beliefs, & to explore new choices.

How would a typical coaching session unfold?chrysalis equine therapy

Through participation in exercises with the horses & a discussion of the experience afterwards, the equi-coach can take the client through a series of insights into their behaviour & thought processes, in order to translate this awareness into new actions to be implemented into their life or organisation/school/home etc. Performance is the result of the conversations we are able to have & the actions we are able to take from these insights. The coaching intervention can therefore allow the individual to practice new actions until the feeling of “being able” is attained. This is a journey of learning about oneself & exploring how to maximise your full potential.

At the end of the conversation the client is more likely to identify learning & development activities, referred to as assignments or homework. The equi-coach will assist the client on building new capacities & on leveraging their learning through the assignments, the new actions that they under-take & the new conversations that they have.
